USB printers are ideal for occasional use at home but in the office are a wreck. Want to know Why? keep reading.

why USB printer suck

  • Cost per printed page very high

Business model of small printers is based on offering the device purchase cost very low and charge a lot when replacing consumables. The result is a very high price per printed page.

  • Laziness becomes expensive

We all like to have a printer right next to us, so we don’t have have to stand up when printing. Applying this rule in a business office where each employee has his own printer, this entails a very high cost of printing.  It’s much more profitable to have a more efficient larger centralized printer, with more features and a lower cost per copy.

  • Consumables leftovers

How many of us have still in a drawer, a spare ink or toner cartridge of the last printer that we had? The problem of cheap printers is the you don’t repair them,  when they break down you just throw them away. And what do you do with the leftover cartridges, the same. How much it cost us to print those pages? Better not to know.

  • Out of Control

Printers that are not connected to the network, are very difficult to control because often either the printer or the computer is off or disconnected from each other. The result is that it is not possible to monitor automatically and stays out of control.

  • Anti – ecological

Most of the the ink cartridges of USB printers are not recyclable or can’t be re-filled. If we add that the same printers are not repaired and simply thrown away when they break down, we have a very contaminate product. The average of waste per printed page is terrifying.

  • High cost of service

Up to 50 % of calls to IT service are related to printing problems. An important part of them come from small printers that has been move from one computer to another, or  printed above their working capabilities.

Recommendations:

  • In your office, use a reliable network printer which provides the print / scanning volume your team members need.
  • Have the printer connected to the network and monitored with and MPS program allowing better care and a proactive maintenance.
  • Have an automatic toner ordering system so when your printer is running out of toner your supplier sends you over a new one without even having to order it.
